While he is most widely known for his inspiring years with the contemporary Christian rock group, David and the Giants, David Huff’s musical journey is far from over.
Born and raised in Pineville, Mississippi, David grew up in a three-room shack. During these years he developed a keen appreciation for country and truly soulful music. At an early age Huff learned to “sense and feel” the music in the world around him from the raw grit of early southern rock to the moody, mournful cries of the blues. In the summer of 1960 he went to Memphis to study radio and made the decision to follow his dream when he dropped out of Jones Junior College to form David & Giants.
During the 1960’s and early ‘70’s, David and the Giants [featuring Keith Thibodeaux from the “I Love Lucy Show” and David’s brothers Clayborn and Rayborn Huff] toured heavily as a secular band, sharing the stage with such formidable acts as Styx, Chuck Berry, Cheech and Chong and Black Oak Arkansas. David has been in the studio with the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder and many others. David was signed with Capitol Records, MGM Records, United Artist Records, and CBS Records.
However, after a newfound relationship with Jesus Christ in the summer of 1977, Huff sought to change the very foundation of the group – to Jesus. Huff began using his gift of musicianship to “reach the unreachable” and ministered alongside his band mates, until the group amicably disbanded in 1997. "I thank the Lord for all the years with my brothers Rayborn, Clayborn, Keith and my son Lance who had such a great part of my journey with the Lord" says Huff.
While his artistry always remains at the forefront, David also owns Huff Recording Studio where he has recorded a vast array of artists such as Chris Tomlin, Doyle Dykes, The Williams Brothers, KC & Jo Jo and Tommy Sims.
In 2000, Huff launched a solo career aimed at spreading his message of God’s love through music, releasing five successful albums on his record label, Giant Records. Songs like “My Song of Praise” and “You Saved My Life” from these projects have topped Radio Charts.
With his forthcoming recording “Wait”, Huff’s excitement over his new project can hardly be contained. “I’ve been working on this recording since 2010 and thank the Lord the “wait” is over. There have been countless hours put into this project and I really believe it speaks loud and clear a wonderful message of love and hope” says Huff.
In David’s own words: “I’m more excited about this CD release “WAIT” than any solo CD I’ve recorded thus far... pray to God that [fans] would sense and feel the presence of the Holy Spirit through the music, through my voice and through the words.”
With the powerful, soaring melodies of songs like “The Best is Yet to Come” or the upbeat pulse of “We Made It” and other rockers, there is no doubt that this CD will encourage, heal and move you closer to God’s presence and power.
It is amazing to hear how Jesus Christ changed David's life during his musical career. He loves to share his testimony during his concerts and watch as people give their lives to Jesus Christ.
